vSAN host cannot be moved to the destination cluster: vSAN cluster UUID mismatch

This is a very quick post regarding the error message received below when attempting to add a VMware ESXi host with an existing vSAN partition to a new vCenter.

The vSAN host cannot be moved to the destination cluster: vSAN cluster UUID mismatch

In my case the complete error is as follows –

Add host
Status: The vSAN host cannot be moved to the destination cluster: vSAN cluster UUID mismatch (host: 522fba5a-1d54-fbe4-45d7-2437e87a5504, destination: 522044a1-7611-d162-7e3f-a3f3b6d0d7eb).
Initiator: VSPHERE.LOCAL\Administrator
Target: BSA HQ

The vSAN host cannot be moved to the destination cluster vSAN cluster UUID mismatch Error Message

I forgot I had added the host to a previous vCenter and configured vSAN on it – the resolution is very simple. SSH to the affected host and run the following esxcli command

esxcli vsan cluster leave

Once the command completes you will be able to add the host to your new vCenter environment.
